What Are the 10 Qira'at, and Which Will You Learn?

Ten recognized recitation traditions exist in total. Here is how they are grouped, and which one this course focuses on.

The 7 Mutawatir Qira'at

The seven widely authenticated recitation traditions, each passed down through a verified chain of narrators.

The 3 Mashhur Qira'at

Three more well known recitations, studied alongside the seven but less often practiced day to day.

Riwayat, the Named Versions

Inside each qira'ah are riwayat, the individual transmitted versions, such as Hafs or Warsh, that most reciters actually learn.

Most students study Hafs 'an 'Asim, the riwayah recited most widely around the world. If you have a specific background or goal, your teacher can talk through other options.

Who This Course Is For

Students who already recite with solid Tajweed and want to refine their tone, pacing, and style. It is not a starting point for beginners.

How It Is Taught

Live, one to one video lessons built around listening and correction. Your teacher guides your pacing, pause points, and delivery as you recite.

Who Teaches It

A background-checked teacher who holds an Ijazah in recitation and is qualified to guide students in refined, careful Quranic recitation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Qira'at and Tajweed?

Tajweed is the set of pronunciation rules every recitation follows. Qira'at are the recognized recitation traditions built on that foundation, each with its own style and chain of transmission.

Do I need to recite well before starting this course?

Yes. The course assumes solid Tajweed. If your pronunciation still needs work, start with our Tajweed course.

Which riwayah will I learn?

Most students study Hafs 'an 'Asim, the most widely recited riwayah in the world. Your teacher can talk through other options based on your background and goals.

Is this course only for people who plan to lead prayers?

No. Many students take it to recite more beautifully and confidently, whether or not they ever lead others in prayer.

How long does this course usually take?

It varies. This is refinement work, not learning from scratch, so the timeline depends on how much you already recite and how often you practice.
